I recieved my Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Kansas in 2000. Since that time I have been creating work in acrylic and oil with themes related to children, nature, baked goods, retro kitsch humor, and animals in an attempt to elucidate a rather quixotic personal mythology. I have exhibited my work regionally, and have participated in juried competitions in Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Most recently (2008), several of my pieces were selected to be on permanent view as a part of the Children's Hospital corporate collection in Denver and throughout the front range in Colorado.
Statement
"My work over the past five years has centered primarily on portraits of children. Children are beautiful, robust, curious, new, and very much in the moment. In my work as an art therapist with children and their families, I am frequently astounded how my clients snap me into a greater sense of awareness and a deeper appreciation of now. Children embody the natural state of the Buddhist concept of beginner's mind. With some of these pieces, I've tried to capture that sense of joy-filled-in-the-moment wonder. Others are an expression of deep longing and the intention to connect with something beyond the limitations of the self. The process is slow and meditative, allowing me time to reflect. Of course I enjoy adulthood, with its many challenges and freedoms, but sometimes I do still long for the simple wonders of a child's experiences. Time to play, time to daydream. Time to have one's own secret way of solving life's mysteries. " Sales Most of the pieces in the gallery are available for sale as limited edition giclee prints.
